OUR PARTNERS IN RWANDA
L’Eglise Vivante (The Living Church)

In 1994, during the dark months of the genocide, Paul Ndahigwa was compelled by God to return to Rwanda from exile in Uganda. He preached in the refugee camps in partnership with David Ndaruhutse, founder of African Revival Ministries (ARM) and known as the Apostle of Africa before he was killed in a plane crash in 1997. Paul and David went on to establish L’Eglise Vivante in Rwanda where there are now dozens of churches.

The great need of L’Eglise Vivante, like many other churches in Rwanda and indeed throughout Africa, is for training. Many of the pastors have had minimal training and although they carry the fire of God in their hearts they are desperate for help to know and preach the word in truth. For this reason L’Eglise Vivante, in partnership with Comfort Rwanda, is developing a programme which offers pastors four residential training courses each year.

The vision our partners have for the church in Rwanda is:
  1. Transformed, committed Christians who have had a real encounter with God and are living in true relationship with Him.
  2. Christians who impact society by practising what they are taught in day to day life and demonstrating the power of the gospel to change lives.
  3. Christians who patiently strive to see unity in the body of Christ, who compliment one another in their gifts and diversity and oppose competition and division that has characterised the church in Rwanda and the nation.
  4. Trained Church leaders and workers who have a better understanding of the word of God.
  5. Evangelists to reach the entire nation with the uncompromising full gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  6. Since the youth are a generation that has been used for negative purposes there is a need to equip and empower them with all the skills they need to build the nation.

Education
Comfort Rwanda and The Living Church now co-operate on two education support projects (see page on “education and camps”). The projects take place at Matimba in the far north of Rwanda where many who were refugees in Uganda during the years of conflict have now settled with very few resources; and in Gatenga, one of the poorer areas in the capital Kigali.

Pastors Training
The costs of the training include accommodation and food expenses for residential courses, expenses for the teachers and the cost of photocopying notes. A 4 day residential course for 80 - 100 pastors costs around £1600 to support (£17 per pastor).

Sewing Project
For the last 4 years Comfort Rwanda has been working with The Living Church at Gatenga to fund a sewing programme for widows and other women in the church. Sewing machines costing around £120 are bought and around 20 women trained with each course. (Click image to enlarge).
Pastor Paul Ndahigwa
Paul Ndahigwa and the pastors of L’Eglise Vivante work in conjunction with other churches in Rwanda to promote reconciliation by holding Healing and Reconciliation retreats throughout the country as well as among refugees in Congo. Comfort Rwanda is providing Bibles for some of those in the reconciliation groups. For more information on the Healing and Reconciliation Ministry click here.
