Most of you will be aware of the wonderful work
The Living Church has been doing with the Street
Kids Rescue. The third phase of the project is
now underway with the bakery in the process of
being set up. This is a really exciting
development we praise God for. However, there is
so much more to do to create the facilities to
enlarge the project and reach more street kids.
The church and team involved have the heart and
vision if we can help with the resources! The
church has invested hugely in terms of time,
energy, manpower, prayer and love into working
amongst the poor in Kigali. However, it’s
own resources are fully stretched with its
present rent of £400 a month on the building it
uses. The building itself is not big enough to
allow the project to expand anymore – two
rooms are committed to the sewing project, two
rooms are being used for overnight accommodation
for the children and the church continues to
grow. All the walls that can be knocked down are
now down!
Land is available to buy at several locations. However, the land is more expensive in the city where the church wants to remain to fulfil its calling to the poor of Gatenga. Whereas suitable land in remote rural areas would cost £600, on the outskirts of the city it costs around £20,000, and in the city will cost £35-50,000. We believe it’s vital any building is sited among the poor in the city. The building work can then proceed and costs for that will be helped by voluntary labour, other support being raised and work input from members of the healing and reconciliation groups who are showing repentance in action through their building work. The bakery will function in the church until it can be moved to the new site.
Comfort Rwanda’s income has grown from less than £6000 to over £100,000 per year over the last four years but we are (more than) fully committed with the first £150,000 we can raise this year already. We have seen God’s faithfulness in continually surprising us with the way provision has been made for the widows, orphans and poor of Rwanda and so we have faith that £35-50,000 will somehow be provided. However, we want to help things move ahead quickly for the Street Kids project. There are kids living in dreadful conditions without love, hope and food and the church cannot get them onto the Street Kids Rescue project until there is both facilities to help those presently on the project move on and live independently and more room available for feeding and sleeping new entries into the project.
Because of this we are seeking interest free loans (or donations!) so that we can send the money needed for the land as soon as possible. Interest free loans will be repaid from January 2009 at 1/24th per month over two years. If funds are available before that the repayment will take place as soon as funds allow. If other arrangements would be preferable we can discuss that.
We also have the Unity Youth Choir coming over, God willing, in Nov/Dec this year. Offerings during the visit should cover costs and, again God willing, provide further resources for projects. However, the plane fares need paid in advance (probably in July) and if you would like to provide finance for the fares (to be paid back by the end of 2008 after the choir’s visit) please also let us know.
Please find enclosed a cheque for __________, in the form of an interest free loan/donation for the Street Kids land purchase/ choir visit.
I am happy for the loan to be repaid at 1/24th monthly from Jan 2009/
Please contact me to discuss other repayment options
